Where the rates come from

The dirham, the Saudi and Qatari riyals, the Bahraini dinar and the Omani rial are pegged to the US dollar, so their rate is the peg each central bank states: 3.6725, 3.75, 3.64, 0.376 and 0.3845 to the dollar.

The euro, the pound, the Indian rupee, the Philippine peso and the Turkish lira come from the European Central Bank's daily reference rates, published around 16:00 Central European time on working days and converted from euro to dollar terms.

The Kuwaiti dinar and the Egyptian pound come from the Central Bank of Egypt's official rates, converted to dollar terms by Frankfurter, an open-source service that collects central-bank rates.

Every other pair, the dirham against the riyal included, is crossed through the dollar by ThronePulse. Rates at banks and exchange houses differ by their margins, and a pegged rate can differ from the market by a fraction of a per cent.
