These are the Umm al-Qura calendar's dates. Each Gulf country fixes the first day of Ramadan and the day of Eid by its own official moon-sighting announcement, which can put either one a day earlier or later. Days are counted at midnight Saudi time (UTC+3).

Who announces Ramadan and Eid

In each country an official body looks for the new crescent on the evening of the 29th of the month, and the next day is announced as the first of Ramadan, or of Shawwal for Eid. If the crescent is not seen, the month completes thirty days.

  • UAE

    The moon-sighting committee of the UAE Council for Fatwa

    The committee meets on the evening of the 29th and weighs the sighting reports from across the country; the Presidential Court then announces the day, through WAM.

    The Supreme Court calls on Muslims across the Kingdom to look for the crescent on the evening of the 29th; the chamber sits that evening, and its decision is issued as a Royal Court statement, published by SPA.

      The committee meets on the evening of the 29th, with field teams in the wilayats, and ONA publishes its decision. When astronomy shows a sighting is impossible, it announces the day in advance: it did so for Ramadan 1447 on 11 February, and Oman began the month a day after its neighbours.
