VAT calculator for the Gulf
Add VAT to a price, or find the VAT inside a price that already includes it, at the standard rate of each Gulf country, each rate linked to its tax authority.
The rule, and where it comes from
- The UAE charges VAT at a standard rate of 5% (Federal Decree-Law No. 8 of 2017, Article 3, as published by the Federal Tax Authority).
- Saudi Arabia charges 15%, as the Zakat, Tax and Customs Authority states. Bahrain charges 10%, the standard rate since 1 January 2022 (National Bureau for Revenue). Oman charges 5% (Tax Authority).
- Qatar and Kuwait have not introduced VAT. Qatar's General Tax Authority lists the taxes it levies, and VAT is not among them. Kuwait's Ministry of Finance site could not be reached from our location to confirm it on its own page, so for Kuwait this rests on the absence of any VAT law, not on a statement we could link.
- Only the standard rate is applied. Zero-rated and exempt supplies (for example exports, some healthcare and education, and some financial services) are outside the calculator.
- Adding VAT: tax = price × rate. Taking it out of a price that includes it: price before tax = price ÷ (1 + rate). Results are rounded to the currency's smallest unit: two decimals for the dirham and the riyal, three for the Bahraini dinar and the Omani rial.
